One of the most talked-about Christian novels in the last couple of years has been the book by William P. Young called "The Shack."  It is a fictional novel written to Young's older children, but it contains a vivid and poignant description of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  It addreses questions about relationship with God, why bad things happen to good people, and even the always-confounding doctrine of the Trinity itself.

It is not a perfect book, by any means, but it is one man's attempt to help modern Christians understand better this amazing God we find ourselves locked in relationship with.

All of that is to say that we are going to be starting a sermon series on June 28th called "Meeting God at The Shack."  In it, we will be looking at The Shack through the lens of the Bible.  I will show you where this book has challenged and blessed me.   I will also compare and contrast how this book lines up with the Bible to see if it is an accurate picture of God.  I have read the book and for the most part, was challenged to seek God more deeply. If you have not read the book, I encourage you to read it now.  It is a relatively easy read and tells a pretty compelling story of a man trying to find His kidnapped daughter, his sanity and God at the same time.

As with any book, you should read The Shack with the book in one hand and the Bible in the other hand.  There are some brilliant pictures here and some real biblical truth that comes to life, but there are also some pure fiction as well.  We'll try to see what is what.
